The GILDA portal, including the Training Material Repository, has been completely re-engineered using the Liferay portlet container. This is the first step towards the adoption of the Science Gateway paradigm for training and dissemination.
A new installation of the lfc-gilda.ct.infn.it File Catalogue with the new gLite 3.1 release has been set up and, at the same time, the old /grid/gilda hierarchy has been purged due to the huge number of entries. To avoid that a similar situation happens again, the following policies for the creation of new directories in the /grid/gilda path have been established:
- the /grid/gilda path will be writable only by the members of the /gilda/tutors VOMS group. This will allow people involved in tutorials and training events to create the directories where participants will write during the hands-on sessions. Please open a ticket at http://gilda-support.ct.infn.it/ with your DN to request the membership to the /gilda/tutors group;
- a /grid/gilda/users has been created to contain the "home" of frequent users. So if you need to play or work with LFC for any purpose, create your own directory under /grid/gilda/users. If you care about the privacy of your entries, remember to use lfc-chmod and lfc-setacl to protect accordingly your home directory;
- a /grid/gilda/tmp has been created. This directory can be used as a temporary and experiment directory. This directory will be purged periodically;
- if you have a specific application/portal/other that needs a dedicated directory under the /grid/gilda/ hierarchy, please open a ticket at http://gilda-support.ct.infn.it/ with your DN and the name of the directory you want to create. This directory will have full permission for the requesting DN, allowing him/her in turn to define his/her own ACLs.
For those of you who have already created directories and entries after the new installation, it would be kind if you can move/delete them in the proper location according to the policies defined above.

Plug and Play UI enables easily access to the grid; in particular, users which have not easy access (firewall issues and so on..) to a physical User Interface can consider this as a fast solution for their connectivity problem. enjoy it !
The gLite User Interface for Windows has been released. It can be downloaded from the project homepage. Installation and configuration instructions (for VO different than GILDA) can be found here.

All GILDA-CA certificates (Personal, Host and Robots) will be released now without e-mail attribute in the subject string. We remember you that, if applying for personal certificate renew, it's also needed to submit a new registration to the VOMS server.
Starting from February 1st 2008, GILDA will not support anymore the Network Server based interface to gLite WMS (glite-job-* commands). Users are recommended to migrate to the WM Proxy based interface. A quickstart for its usage can be found on the GILDA wiki
A basic tutorial concerning the GRelC Portal is available here on the GILDA Grid CT Wiki. Users can refer to the tutorial to try both to manage grid-databases, table, metadata, etc. and to submit queries to a GRelC DAS. GILDA users are already authorized on the GRelC Portal to manage a couple of GRelC DAS (one in Catania and another one in Lecce) with some databases for test and training activities (i.e. sakila grid-database).
The GILDA File Transfer Service has been upgraded to the brand new 2.0 release, which leds some important news on the client usage, in particular on the security model . You can know something more on the GILDA wiki page
The Secure Storage service for the gLite middleware provides users with a set of tools for storing data securely and in an encrypted format on the grid storage elements. Data is accessible and readable by authorized users only. This service provides command line programs ( lcg-s* commands, similar to the lcg-utils command) and a POSIX-like API for managing encrypted files on the grid storage elements (open, read, write, seek, close, etc.). The Secure Storage command and API are available on the Gilda User Interfaces.

have been re-installed on a much more powerful hardware (dual AMD Opteron dual core machines with 4 GB of RAM) to better sustain the load during tutorials and training events with many students.
The GILDA P-GRADE Portal has been upgraded to P-GRADE Portal 2.5. Existing portal accounts remained unchanged. New features in P-GRADE Portal 2.5 are:
- Support for workflow based parameter study applications: workflows can be executed on large parameter sets according to the SIMD style parallelism (Single Instruction Multiple Data). Data generators and collectors make parameter space generation and collective operations convenient for the users.
- Execution of a workflow can be suspended and resumed any time. This feature is useful to migrate a job from a slow resource to a better performing one without loosing workflow internal results.
- Partial results produced by different jobs of the workflow can be accessed during workflow execution.

On the GILDA infrastructure have been deployed the GRelC Data Access Service clients. The GRelC DAS, is GSI enabled Web Service which provides an uniform access interface to relational and not-relational (i.e., textual databases) data sources within a grid environment. It aims at efficiently and transparently managing Grid Databases, across Virtual Organizations, with regard to modern grid standards and specifications and interoperating with gLite middleware and components. Complete infos on GRelC can be found here. Currently GRelC DAS clients can be used by trainers and participants of GILDA trainings, and by any self-guided learner. A web form has been realized to let people subscribe/unsubscribe to/from GILDA mailing lists. The form is available here.
The new GILDA Forge website is online at the page https://gilda-forge.ct.infn.it. GILDA Forge is a free service that hosts the code of all the grid services and applications developed by the GILDA Team. Everybody willing to contribute with his/her code is welcome to register to GILDA Forge.
Since today also the GILDA t-Infrastructure has an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). From now on, people wanting to use GILDA must accept the AUP available at the page https://gilda.ct.infn.it/aup.php before registering to the GILDA VO. Although it is not mandatory, we would appreciate if also users already registered as members of the GILDA VO could accept the AUP.
SZTAKI is operating a P-GRADE Portal installation for training purposes: http://portal.p-grade.hu/gilda.
The portal is connected to the GILDA infrastructure and can be used by trainers and participants of GILDA trainings, and by any self-guided learner. The portal has basically the same usage policy than GILDA itself does. The Portal has been used with big success during different EGEE, SEE-GRID and ICEAGE related events. Just to name a few:
It provides a user friendly, technology neutral environment, thus it proved to be a very useful tool to teach the general concepts of Grid computing, job, data and workflow management, Grid application development and application execution.
In order to further improve the reliability of GILDA during tutorials and pre-porting of applications, a GStat server has been configured and it is reachable at the URL http://goc.grid.sinica.edu.tw/gstat/gilda/ (it is also reachable from the GILDA monitors page). GILDA site managers are strongly invited to check the GStat server at least daily (especially during tutorials) to see if their sites are in order and pro-actively solve any eventual problems. GILDA tutors are strongly invited to check the GStat server during tutorials to prevent problems arising by job submission or data movements of students to unreliable sites. GILDA users are strongly invited to check the GStat server during their application porting activity in order to identify which sites may have problems so saving time in the development of the application.

The GILDA VOMS has a new certificate. All GILDA services (real and virtual) have been updated but, if you run a private GILDA User Interface or Resource Broker, you have to do it by yourself. In your vomses file change the entry related to gilda from:
